Write One More Thing

(from Just Write)

I was tired at the end of the work day
A nap sounded like a very good idea
Put the cookies in the oven
And the water on for tea
Gathered my materials
And was ready for writing time
When my writing guest arrived

We write with the prompts of someone else’s words
Or what we see
I could write about the gingerbread cookies
Made into circles today
The gingerbread men cookie cutters of Christmas long put away
Grandchildren’s favorites
I could write about the luscious yellow roses on the table
They are opening full, a birthday gift from my husband
I put them in the antique black urn that I love
Never used for flowers before
The urn was my mother’s
She died in June
I like having her pottery urn full of roses

I could write and write about anything
Anywhere my eyes rest
My energy has expanded full like the roses
Or the cookie dough
Or my husband’s love
Or my mother’s spirit
All that matters is that I write
One more thing.
