Recalibration #2

posted in: Poems 8

Eyes still closed

Barely re-entering awareness from a nap

I am floating up

More like surfacing

Slowly

From the deep deep

Wondering in a mere moment or two

Whether to continue up

To full consciousness

Or to let go more

Enjoying

Sinking back downward

Downward

Floating downward languidly

To the easy pleasantness

Of Nothing in Particular

Where recalibration

Takes care of itself

Much more inviting in this moment

Than fixing dinner.

Dale, I love your words. I was floating up with you. Isn’t that the most delicious part of sleep: when you can choose to come out or sink back down?

Thank you, Heidi. And yes, it is indeed a delicious moment…especially for me with an added awareness that while I am drifting something important is happening for me beyond my consciousness.

Been there, connected with that. Thanks.

And how often–in years past–did I push forward, disallowing and squelching the delicious glide back? Permission from self is such a liberating gift.
